The FY2018 Adaptive Sports Grant (ASG) results should be released within the next two weeks.  Of the 215 FY18 ASG applications, 153 applications passed vetting and were reviewed by the Review Board.  Almost all applicants whose applications were eliminated during vetting or failed to receive the mandatory 60.0 Review Board score as established in the FY18 ASG Notice of Funding Availability,  have been notified of their determination of ineligibility and explanation of the reason(s) for ineligibility.  Because there is only up to $9.0 million authorized with at least $1.0 million mandated by law for equine therapy for mental health issues, the demand exceeded funding available for the remaining eligible FY18 ASG applications; therefore, some applicants who received an eligible score will not be offered a grant.

For the FY2019 Adaptive Sports Grant cycle, this week the appropriations bill for the program had release of the Joint Explanatory Statement (https://docs.house.gov/billsthisweek/20180910/Joint%20Statement.pdf) which on the 198th page states “; $15,000,000 for the Adaptive Sports Grants Program (ASGP)” and “Given the promising results reported using equine therapy for veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder, $1,500,000 within the ASGP total is provided for equine therapy”.  We will provide additional information on the FY19 ASG cycle later this fall, but it’s always a good idea to plan ahead.
